Recommendations for accepting peer-review
When I was an editorial committee member of Ohyo Butsuri, I proposed an article to Professor Emeritus Tadashi Shibata of the University of Tokyo entitled "Be proactive in peer-reviewing papers!". It is a wonderful article that carefully explains to young researchers with little experience in peer reviewing what kind of mindset they should have when doing it. Therefore, I highly recommend that you read it.
Even if the field of a peer-review paper is slightly outside your own, you may still be willing to peer-review it if you are motivated to study that field. Peer review is not a criticism of the content, but rather a timely submission of comments that are scientifically sound and encourage constructive discussion.
